Monique Shana-maria Redhead is a Canadian beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned the 1st Miss Black Beauty Canada (2012).
On August 25th, 2012. she was crowned the 1st Miss Black Beauty Canada 2012. Monique Redhead, who stands 1.74 m (5 ft 8 1/2 in) tall, competed as one of 10 finalists in her country’s national beauty pageant, Miss Black Beauty Canada, the first pageant of its caliber. Monique obtained the Photogenic Award, Best Evening Gown, Best International Costume & the People’s Choice Award. She became the eventual winner of the title, gaining the right to represent Black Canada on a worldwide scale.
Crowned the 2012 winner of Miss Black Beauty Canada in her hometown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Redhead, beat out 9 other finalist to do what no other in Canada has ever done. In an industry filled with women of a certain look, this 5 feet 81⁄2 Dark- skinned, Athletically built, reserved Black Canadian with a crest white smile came out on top with a Simple hairdo and door-to-door sponsorship. The timid voice beauty is an avid Naturalist and believes in the purity of things and strives to develop natural leadership talents in youth worldwide as well as extend the longevity of our earth through sustainable development. She is Passionate about youth evolution, sports, female empowerment and evolving Black Canadian History!

Monique is involved in various organizations World Wide. Most recently within her Black community she has devoted her time and passions in life towards The Congress of Black Women (Mississauga), C.A.A.B.W.A (Canadian and African Business Women Alliance), B.C.A.N (Black Community Action Network of Peel), & Youth Initiative Canada. This is in addition to her lifetime commitment to her childhood youth-lead organizations S.E.Y.A (South Etobicoke Youth Assembly) and Street Level in South Etobicoke within the GTA as well as Junior Achievement (In Grenada & Virginia).
Monique helped establish an organization currently active in Kenya entitled Beyond Hoops where she continues her platform of teaching youth to become the change they want the world to see. With Beyond Hoops she does this though the use of Sports. Monique is a Proud Canadian that loves the world, when she’s not exploring the world, she’s learning languages currently: French, Spanish, Japanese and most recently
Italian, with aspirations to learn an African language and Traditional Caribbean Creole Patois. “Everyone YOUNG, OLD or Middle Aged should never forget that ‘YOU define who you are and where you will go in life… no one else!’” Redhead says. “My Beauty is more then skin deep and is the combination of a variety of things. I credit my success to my upbringing, experiences in life and positive surroundings, my goals are never set to end at one point, just evolve, and this is what keeps me motivated and pushing in life.” The newly crowned Miss Black Beauty Canada says that the victory will allow her to help energize and empower a new movement of young pioneers. Identifying, enabling and developing everyday young people to overcome adversity, be successful & lead change.
Young pioneers in Monique’s definition are youth that against all odds, set out to accomplish something unimaginable.
Their dedication, sacrifice and heart are what opens doors of opportunity for them, be it though sports, education, work, entertainment or everyday life. Monique became a young pioneer & wants to teach the youth today that anything is possible although it may not follow the path of fairytales.
She has plans to focus on Sickle Cell Awareness around the globe. When asked about stereotypes and racism in light of the fact that she’s the first Miss Black Beauty Canada and it’s the 21st Century, Redhead said that “I aim to educate those who have misconceptions of the Black Canadian community, Black Women, or any minority, this I believe will help eliminate negative stereotypes and racism. Stereotypes offer no explanation or exploration; education will help eliminate stereotypes, ultimately decreasing racism worldwide.”
At the end of the day Monique just wants to be Rich at Heart…and believes everything else will follow
